Hello-
I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Mary Prasch Paetsch. Yes, my married name also is a good German name ending in “sch”. I am a member of the East Troy Area Historical Society and have volunteered to write vignettes about some of the earlier times and people of East Troy. When Mrs. Parman wrote articles, I always enjoyed reading them. Lois Kehoe Crubaugh and I will collaborate on some of the village and area news and people from over the years. I hope we convey a “picture” of those bygone days to you.
My grandparents, Andrew and Julia Prasch, moved to East Troy from Lyons with their baby son, my father William (Bill) Andrew Prasch, in 1902. My grandfather was a shoemaker, and he established his shop in East Troy. They resided above the old Village Hall on the west corner of the south side of the square. That lot is now vacant. My mother Margaret Charlotte Wadell moved to East Troy from Milwaukee to be a nanny for the children of Dr. Stillwell Meany.
Bill and Margaret married July 30, 1924. I was born July 9, 1936. I graduated from ETHS in 1954. This past June our class celebrated our 70th reunion at the East Troy House.
If any of you have questions, additions, or ideas, please contact the East Troy Area Historical Society; I should be at the museum most Saturdays. Thank you for reading this introduction. I hope that we can provide and interest you in snippets of “what our village was like—back in the day”.
